Psychologist
Pre-employment, annual and fitness-for-duty psychological evaluations for VA police officers at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System; about 60 evaluations a year, by secure telehealth or in person.
Provide psychological evaluations for the VA Police at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System: about 15 pre-employment assessments for new hires, about 40 annual assessments for current officers and up to 5 fitness-for-duty evaluations each year. Evaluations may be done by secure telehealth, or in person at the Minneapolis VA when the VA requires and approves it.
What you will do
- Conduct pre-employment psychological evaluations of police officer candidates, using at least 2 tests (one normal personality, one psychopathology).
- Conduct annual psychological evaluations of current officers, with more testing if concerns come up.
- Conduct fitness-for-duty evaluations when VA HR refers an officer.
- Get written consent and do an individual interview for every evaluation.
- Write each report in the VA police officer recommendation format and send it securely to VA Occupational Health within 30 calendar days of a complete referral.
- Use a secure, non-public video platform for telehealth evaluations.
- Keep evaluation records for 7 years.
What you need
- Active Minnesota psychologist or psychiatrist license.
- Training in police officer psychological evaluation, including clinical and normal personality traits.
- Based in the Minneapolis area and able to do evaluations in person at the Minneapolis VA when needed.
- You may not evaluate anyone you are treating.
Schedule and location
- Schedule: part time, as scheduled; about 60 evaluations a year. Each report is due within 30 calendar days of a complete referral.
- Start: March 1, 2027, for one year, with up to four more yearly renewals.
- Where: Minneapolis area, by secure telehealth or in person at the Minneapolis VA when the VA requires it. The VA provides an exam room for in-person evaluations; you will not need access to VA computer systems.
- Type: part-time.
